FTP

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a standard internet protocol for transferring files between computers, as the name implies. The client-server paradigm of FTP software necessitates the employment of two components: an FTP client and an FTP server. FTP is commonly used to upload or download files for archival purposes, as well as to share files that are too big to send through email. FTP has long been a significant method of transferring huge data between computers or between systems. This limited protocol, which was created in a simpler time, lacks the security and file management features that are today commonly required for the sharing of business data.

Why FTP?

  • FTPS and SFTP, both secure (encrypted) file transfer protocols, provide an extra layer of protection to standard FTP transfers, and many FTP servers enable both FTPS and SFTP to further protect shared data. It gives an extra assurance that your sensitive data will not fall into wrong hands
  • Another advantage of using FTP server is the level of control you may obtain over your data. Many FTP servers, particularly industry-leading ones, have comprehensive accessibility controls that allow your administrators to restrict who can upload, download, modify, delete, or distribute files, as well as which folders they have access to
  • FTP server allows you to share many gigabytes of data at the same time. It is useful for companies who deal with large amounts of data, and don’t want the entire file sharing procedure to be disrupted
  • Having an FTP server allows you to keep all of your files in one area. This cuts down on the amount of time your team spends looking for certain data. It also minimizes the likelihood of files being lost
