Cybercriminals are the ultimate marketers, trying hundreds – if not thousands – of different ways to appeal to their victims, from using trusted brand to hijacking the email accounts of our friends and colleagues, increasing the likelihood that we’ll open their spam, malware, or phishing emails.
Of course, the sender and topic of that email significantly affects the open rate.
Here’s an example that we intercepted from a compromised account. The email offers cheap electronics but Christmas greetings from a rabbi aren’t likely to get them a high response rate. At least we don’t think so…
